Empowering Authentic Living
Guiding you towards a fulfilling life where you confidently advocate for the things you want, need, and deserve!
Dr. Jaclyn D. Deilgat is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY27879) who specializes in treating individuals, families, couples, and groups. Jaclyn first started working with clients in 2009 and was licensed in 2015. She works with people who want to improve the quality of their life, decrease symptoms and distress, enhance their relationships, resolve family conflict, and better cope with life stressors. She specializes in treating: psychiatric diagnoses, complex trauma from dysfunctional family environments, substance use concerns, behavioral addictions, grief & bereavement, and people struggling with issues related to sexuality and gender. Jaclyn provides affirmative therapy to the LGBTQAI2S+ population and is active in her community for issues related to human rights. She is a strong advocate for social justice, equity, inclusion, diversity, and destigmatizing psychiatric diagnoses.
Jaclyn provides therapy that does not shame individuals; she is non-judgmental, empathetic, understanding, and compassionate as she is aware that “everyone has in [them] something of the criminal, the genius, and the saint” (Carl Jung). Jaclyn is accepting of all individuals, and does not judge people for the things they have done, the places they have been (or may go), nor the thoughts they have had (or may have). She sees clients as people, not as diagnoses. Jaclyn is multi-culturally sensitive and actively seeks to maintain cultural competence and deconstruct her own privilege as a white woman. She is aware that asking for help can be a challenging task and therefore wants to ensure that you feel comfortable and safe being YOU!
In addition to providing therapy, Jaclyn also engages in several other professional endeavors. She is the Director of Research & Assistant Professor at Pacifica Graduate Institute. She supervises California Board of Psychology Registered Psychological Associates at an organization that provides services for older adults. She hosts workshops for women's empowerment, participates in community advocacy initiatives, and regularly writes our local legislators. Formerly, she was a sub-investigator for clinical research trials examining the efficacy of novel medications to treat psychiatric illness. She dedicated many years of her career to serving marginalized populations in community mental health settings, psychiatric hospitals, and the criminal justice system-always advocating for moral, humane, compassionate, culturally-sensitive care.
Depth Psychology: Where Psyche Meets Soul
Jaclyn obtained her doctorate degree in clinical psychology with a specialization in Depth Psychology which is a distinctive therapeutic approach that explores both conscious and unconscious realms of the human experience. Counseling from this perspective not only addresses conscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, but also dives into experiences outside of conscious awareness-that which is known as the unconscious. The unconscious contains material that may be too difficult to face in one’s present state, but it has a tremendous impact on functioning, performance, and interactions with the world and people in it. The unconscious encompasses a variety of defense mechanisms that people enact in order to prevent them from dealing with thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are too distressing to deal with in their conscious, awake state. The unconscious serves as a protective mechanism in many respects, but it also can result in a number of problematic consequences that arise in faulty thoughts, problematic behaviors, relationship conflict, tension, negative interactions with others, unpleasant emotions, repeating unsettling patterns, and a general state of unease. Therapy from a depth perspective seeks to examine what is underneath the various problems people experience and is often accomplished by analyzing dreams, fantasies, defenses, repressed experiences, forbidden desires, the type of partner you consistently choose, unresolved issues from childhood, “Freudian slips,” complexes, art, myths, and archetypes, in order to process unconscious conflict.
Exploring your unconscious, complexes, archetypes, and defense mechanisms transpires by examining the things you say in session as well as things like: your favorite movies, music, books, characters, superheroes, etc. in order to tap into that which lies outside of your conscious awareness. In therapy, Jaclyn will strive to unearth this hidden content by investigating things like art, poetry, myth, and a variety of other sources you may enjoy or identify. These sources and interests contain clues and vital information about you that is likely beyond your present awareness, but largely impactful in your daily life. In the words of the late Dr. Carl Jung, “until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” Jung also proclaimed that the unconscious will “leave no peace and continue to plague until it has been accepted.” It is within the unconscious realm where deep healing can transpire; finding the deep, underlying causes of your challenges can provide tremendous growth and an increased understanding of why various distressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors manifest in your life and your experience in this world.

Client Testimonials

Jaclyn was the best addictions group therapist I have ever had! This says a lot because I went to all kinds of expensive treatment centers like Betty Ford and McDonald's center. She really understands addiction and inspired me to want more for myself than I had thought possible. I have now been clean and sober for 10 years.

I had been to therapy for years and felt at a loss because I wasn't getting the help I needed. Working with Jaclyn changed that-I was able to see how growing up in a dysfunctional family was at the root of many of my troubles, and for the first time in my life, I found healing.
